CHANOINE & FRÈRES The house was founded in 1730 in Reims and is the second oldest Champagne house. Philippe Baijot, who is one of the district’s tallest and humblest gentlemen, makes a house Champagne that he sells at a very low price. He works closely with Bruno Paillard and has built an ultra-modern facility with temperature-controlled cellars above ground. Chanoine will certainly gain more attention in the future. The Tsarine wines are a real superb.
CHANOINE ‘TSARINE CUVÉE PREMIUM BRUT’ │ 33PN 33PM 34CH │ 83(86)RJpoints │ TASTING NOTE ‘Two thirds of the blend goes through malolactic fermentation, one third is blocked – complexity allied with freshness. The Champagne is aged for 24 months on the lees. Even this wine is very reminiscent of Moët, this time of their vintage wine. Once again, Chanoine succeeds in making a very affordable Champagne with good chances of fine development with aging. The wine has a clean and delicate lightness combined with a bready, biscuit-like complexity. The Champagne has a pleasant sweetness in its finish and a large dose of finesse.’
The champagne will be available at Systembolaget (77934-01) in Sweden from the 1st of July for 259 sek.
