RICHARD GEOFFROY TASTING NOTE: DOM PÉRIGNON P2 1998

1998 Harvest – The wine-growing season was marked by extremes, with few grapes, burnt by the sun, in a spectacularly hot August and especially gray, rainy weather during the first two weeks of September. Postponing the harvest allowed us to take advantage of the miraculous spell of good weather that followed. That decision defined the creation of the vintage. When the harvest began on September 21, the grapes were perfectly ripe and healthy.

Nose – After a short breathing period, the wine has an intense, full and radiant bouquet, with notes of honeysuckle, orange colored fruits, toasted almonds and hints of iodine sensations.

Mouth – The creamy chewiness characterizing the vintage is channeled in a direction that is edgy yet embracing, with a wave of aromatic persistence. The finish – smoky, biting and full of energy – offers balances and harmony.

RICHARD JUHLIN TASTING NOTE: DOM PÉRIGNON P2 1998

The same wine as Oenothèque, but because it is a new name, the wine is slightly more autolytically from Moëts cellars. The new name stands for ‘plentitude step 2’ of the three steps that Dom Pérignon according to Richard Geoffroy always reaches.

A very stylish wine which as usual will win a lot of it’s late disgorging. Can feel too ascetic and sea-scented for the experienced Dom Pérignon-drinker. The saltiness, iodine, fresh seaweed and sashimi are joined by cool and flowery notes of kiwi fruit on the nose. The flavor also has a weak toasty element and biscuit-like aromas that spreads with airration. Velvety mineral embossed aristocrat who sustains long and clean as a Symphony by Dvorak. Six months later, even better. With implemented powerful classical DP-toasty notes.

RICHARD GEOFFROY TASTING NOTE: DOM PÉRIGNON VINTAGE 2005

The vintage – The year 2005 was full of contrasts. The weather was mostly warm, with little rain. A heatwave in August was followed by cool, rainy weather in September, tempering our initial enthusiasm. In the end, a drastic selection in the vineyard ensured a limited volume of exceptional quality, with a never-before-seen aromatic maturity. The harvest began on September 14.

Nose – The wine’s remarkably rich bouquet reveals itself in successive waves: first the intense fruit, more black than red, which then melts into silvery minerality. Notes of praline and coriander complement the whole.

Palate – The wine has a strong character and a powerful presence – there is even something physical about it. Overall, it is structured, focused, firm and dense. Its intriguingly spicy, flowery finish remains present in each sip.

An extremely soft and rich and silky yet of classic Dom Pérignon. Impressive craft from this little cloying vintage. Richard Geoffroy has managed to combine the vintage rich thermal maturity with a velvety texture. On the tongue  the sweet flavors takes turns to dominate before the chocolaty finish. Somewhere between 2004 and 2003.

RICHARD GEOFFROY TASTING NOTE: DOM PÉRIGNON ROSÉ VINTAGE 2003

The vintage – The 2003 vintage is one of superlatives: a year like no other, defined by extremes. The vineyard was first touched by severe spring frosts and then by an unparalleled heat wave. The vintage of a perfectlyripe and healthy small harvest, is thus the most precocious since 1822.

Colour – The colour is deep, with light amber and copper tints.

Nose – The nose incites a burst of richness and complexity. Ripe fruit at first, then fig and strawberry as the wine breathes and grows, revealing guava, violet and vanilla.

Palate – The palate is concentrated and remarkably well-defined. The fullness is structured, rich. The silky, spicy material very gradually disappears into a mineral, iodine, salty finish.

An insanely awesome wine where Richard Geoffroy stretched the limits to the maximum. Can you really make such a burgundy scented Rosé champagne? Will not Rousseau and Ponsot become envious? The roundness and the velvety structure settles like the most wonderful Persian carpet on the palate. Buy and follow this historic wine which might constitute the eve of something new.

RICHARD GEOFFROY TASTING NOTE: DOM PÉRIGNON ROSÉ VINTAGE 2004

The vintage – The full-bodied ease of the 2004 vintage will leave its mark on the history of Dom Pérignon. In stark contrast to the previous year, the vines experienced steady, problem-free vegetative growth, with abundant, sizable grape clusters. There were no weather extremes during most of the season – even the month of August was rather cool. It was the dry heat of the final weeks that made the vintage what it is. The harvest of the mature, healthy crop began on September 24.

Nose – The nose sings out loud and clear, beginning with fresh, intense red fruit: redcurrants and wild strawberries, complemented by warm notes of ripe hay, blood orange and cocoa.

Palate – The attack is smooth and embracing, but it is the impression of precision that dominates in the end. The wine’s chiseled integrity, intense and penetrating, is prolonged with the unexpected hint of green citrus that marks the vintage.

RICHARD JUHLIN TASTING NOTE: DOM PÉRIGNON ROSÉ VINTAGE 2004

Tasted next to the lovely 95 P2 this wine felt very young and almost a little verdant. Otherwise, everything is here already. Great flowery and fruit. Obvious hints of milk chocolate, nougat, purple roses, raspberry, orange and Granny Smith apples. A tight and classic contexture. Unfortunately, far too many bottles of this adorable beautiful wine will be drunk far too early by night crowds worldwide.
