GULDKULA’ WHITE LABEL 2015′ | Chouilly | Champagne | France | 100CH | Swedish importer Grape Svenska AB | SBnr 75248 | 399 SEK | #TheChampagneSommelier 88(90)p

BACK LABEL TASTING NOTE  by RICHARD JUHLIN’ As Guldkula White Label 2015 I have selected pure grand cru Chardonnay from Chouilly (from the vineyards of R & L LEGRAS). The enpose delivers pleasure of the highest class: its superlativs clarity is strykning, as well are its crisp aromas of fresh apple. Its flavour emulates teh purity of a mountains trean, dominatet by hinns of citrus and mineral, The long aftertaste is creamy och remarkabla fräsch. (disgorged in May’15)

RICHARD JUHLIN on R & L LEGRAS Domain status was obtained in 1973. This impeccably run firm now owns twenty-one hectares of Chouilly’s finest vineyards. Monsieur Barbier, who is a big man in more ways than one, runs together with his son Julien his model company with a successful mixture of modern and traditional vinification methods. Even though the wines go through malolactic fermentation, they retain a very high degree of life-giving acidity for decades. Legras is the house Champagne at many of France’s three-star restaurants, and this must be counted among the top producers in the whole of Champagne. In the vintage from 2000 I am for once unable to distinguish any difference in quality between the vintage and prestige Champagnes. The 2002 is fantastically enjoyable right from the start. However it is significantly better to keep ones impulses under control and to wait for the profound loveliness that greying temples will give this strong personality.

BACK LABEL TASTING NOTE  by RICHARD JUHLIN ‘As Guldkula Black Label 2015 I have selected a puré Grand Cru Pint Noir from Mailly (from the vineyards of MAILLY GRAND CRU ). This is a very charming and gastronomi Blanc de Noirs. The selectionand careful blend of the grapes prevent the koine from being too heavy and obstrusive. The nosa os young yet strong with notes of chocolate, brioche and licorice. A dominant soft taste of plym and red apple fillo the mouth together with bright acidity and stony terroir.’ (disgorged in April’5)

RICHARD JUHLIN on MAILLY GRAND CRU Established in 1929. The seventy-seven members of the cooperative share at present the same number of hectares in a very professional and successful manner. Hervé Dantan is now the skillful winemaker. The Mailly Cooperative belongs among the absolute best, and best known, of the cooperatives in the whole district. Their marketing is well-organised and forward-looking. Jean-Francois Preau is a very effective leader for this gigantic enterprise. For a long time there have been signs of the Echansons having the potential of becoming a really great wine. With the 97 all doubts have been erased. A mighty Winston Churchill-scented wine with massive dark chocolate-saturated and yeasty Pinot Noir as its leading theme. The style is recognisable, but is even more impressive and multi-facetted than usual. Brilliant! First cooperative to reach 4 stars.
